Conversations About Teaching starts with the classics

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – John T. Kirby, professor of classics at Purdue University, kicks off this year's Conversations About Teaching lecture series on Tuesday (9/17).

Kirby will present "Teaching the Humanities at the Turn of the Millennium" at 3:30 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union's West Faculty Lounge. The lecture series is sponsored by the Office of the Provost's Focus on Teaching program and is dedicated to improving teaching and learning on campus.

Kirby came to Purdue in 1987 to start the Interdisciplinary Program in Classical Studies. He chaired the program for seven years, until he became chair of the Program in Comparative Literature. During his time at Purdue he has received awards at the departmental, school, state and national levels. Kirby's interests are in the changing nature of university education and the future of academic disciplines, such as classics.
