September 6, 2002 Purdue fall disability video series begins Sept. 13 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Affirmative Action Office will begin its fall disability video series Friday (9/13) with a program on communicating with people with disabilities. "Ten Commandments for Communicating with People with Disabilities" will provide tips on communicating comfortably and effectively with individuals with disabilities. All three sessions in the video series are scheduled from 12:15-1 p.m. in Beering Hall, Room 1284. "Often people don't know what to say around a person with a disability so they don't say anything at all," said Gina Kerr, assistant director of compliance and disability services for the Affirmative Action Office and series moderator. "This video series seeks to dispel myths and misunderstandings about people with disabilities and to promote diversity on campus and beyond." On Oct. 11 the documentary video "Look Who's Laughing" explores the lives, experiences and humor of six working comedians who have various types of disabilities. On Nov. 15 the video "And You Can Quote Me On That ..." documents the experience of being a student with a disability at a Big Ten university by interviewing 15 University of Michigan students with a variety of disabilities. The video series is free and open to the public, and no reservations are needed.
