August 5, 2002 Purdue Theatre presents alumnus' 9/11 piece WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A theatrical adaptation of poetry written in response to the events of Sept. 11 will be presented by Smoke and Mirror Productions, a theatrical company formed by Purdue Theatre alumnus Nick Jones. "Giving Sorrow Words," sponsored by Purdue Theatre, will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday (9/7) in the Black Box Theatre, Creative Arts 3. All tickets are $5 and are available in the Purdue Theatre office or by calling (765) 494-3074. Seating is limited to 50 patrons. Russ Jones, theatre division chair, says he is looking forward to the performance. "I'm pleased to have the opportunity to bring Nick and his production company back to campus," Jones says. "In addition to providing a venue for his show, it also provides our students with a glimpse at the ways in which our graduates create in the theater world beyond Purdue." "Giving Sorrow Words" is an adaptation, co-written by Jones and Peter Anderson, of a publication by the National Association for Poetry Therapy. Jones also directs the 30-minute performance, which will be followed by an audience discussion. Smoke and Mirror Productions first presented the show in Chicago. The company's managing director is Chad Kodiak, also an alumnus of Purdue. "Giving Sorrow Words" also will be performed Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 at the Loyola University Chicago Studio Theatre.
