Purdue Theatre invites high school students to Workshop Day

WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue Theatre will present its fourth annual free High School Workshop Day on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the West Lafayette campus.

Workshop Day provides an opportunity for students to work with the Purdue University Theatre Division faculty and staff. Faculty members will present workshops for students in acting, production design and technology. Workshop titles include, "Auditions: The Art of Selling Yourself," "Building the Scenic Model," "Improvisation" and "The Acting Biz."

The workshop will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. Theatre division chair Russ Jones says the workshop should be a memorable experience for attendees.

"The combined theatrical experience of the Purdue theatre faculty and staff makes this event a wonderful and rare opportunity for students to work with professionals who have put their talents to the test in the real world of professional theatre," Jones says.

New this year, students planning to attend Purdue in the fall of 2003 with a theatre major can compete for theatre scholarships as part of the day’s program. All students who participate in Workshop Day are invited to attend the matinee performance of the season's first Mainstage production, "Little Shop of Horrors," at the discounted price of $5 per student.

Scholarship applications and registration forms for High School Workshop Day are available online.
