Purdue Theatre student talents honored

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.–Eleven Purdue students have been selected to compete in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival as a result of their work in Purdue Theatre’s two final productions of the 2001-02 season.

Adjudicators representing the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival Region III viewed performances of "Art" in the Black Box Theatre and "Our Town" in the Experimental Theatre. Both productions were entered in KC/ACTF as associate entries, which allow only individual student work to be invited to the Festival.

Nominated for the Barbizon Award for Design Excellence are:

Christine Haskell , a senior from Lafayette, Ind. who served as a scenic designer for "Art."

Dusty Hammersly, a sophomore from Remington, Ind., who served as a costume designer for "Art."

Jason Hibbard, a first-year graduate student from Bretton Woods, N.H., who served as a lighting designer for "Art."

Kristy Hansen, a second-year graduate student from Lovell, Wyo. who served as a costume designer, for "Our Town," and

Matt Gowin, a first-year graduate student from Michigan City, Ind., who served as a lighting designer for "Our Town,"

Nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship competition are:

Jeremy Clark, a first-year graduate student from Bozeman, Mont., who played the role of Serge in "Art,"

Jacob Mucha, a senior theatre major from Lowell, Ind., who played the role of Yvan in "Art,"

Aaron Ousley, a senior theatre major from Warsaw, Ind., who played the role of Marc in "Art"

Vanessa Buono, a first-year graduate student from Baltimore, Md., who played the role of Emily Webb in "Our Town,"

Megan Mary Ryan, a first-year graduate student from Madison, Wisc., who played the role of the Stage Manager in "Our Town, " and

Justin Karr, a sophomore theatre major from Columbus, Ind., who played the role of George Gibbs in "Our Town."

The Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival Region III competition will be held at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville in January.
