July 2, 2002 Purdue road show departs for ChicagoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Pack it up, load it up, arrive at the destination, and then set it up. No small feat for a family – but how about a major university? That is exactly what Purdue University and President Martin C. Jischke will be doing as its road show, "Purdue Days," comes to Chicago's Navy Pier (600 E. Grand Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. The event is part of the university's ongoing Discover Purdue initiative, designed to give citizens and prospective students an inside glimpse of the university. Purdue Day in Chicago will include faculty, staff and alumni who will be participating in the 85-booth informational extravaganza in Exhibition Hall B. There will be a free program featuring WGN radio personality and Purdue alum, Max Armstrong, who will serve as the master of ceremonies for the day's activities. Jischke will meet with guests and be available to answer their questions. He also will discuss the future of Purdue and its strategic plan, which outlines goals and objectives for the university. Purdue Day activities are free, however, guests will incur charges for parking and other separate Navy Pier attractions. Nearly 4,000 Purdue alumni and friends are expected to attend the event. All university schools and departments have been invited to attend and showcase educational enrichment opportunities and programs offered by the university. Highlights of attractions and features of the Navy Pier event include: • Solving the structure of a virus. • Roachhill Downs (cockroach races) and insect petting zoo. • Building a computerized robot. • Purdue's "Big Bass Drum." Purdue Day activities will culminate on the West Lafayette, Ind., campus Sept. 28 with the largest homecoming celebration in university history. Writer: Jesica E.
