May 30, 2002 Passenger plane makes emergency landing at Purdue Airport WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A jet carrying 45 passengers and crew was forced to make an emergency landing today (Thursday, 5/30) at the Purdue University Airport after one of the plane's engines malfunctioned. No one was injured. Comair Flight 5376 was bound from Appleton, Wis., to Cincinnati with 42 passengers and three crew members. The pilot requested permission to make an emergency landing at 10:15 a.m., and the twin-engine, 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet safely landed at approximately 10:45 a.m., said Ron Fosnaugh, Purdue University Police Department captain of special services. "The plane landed without incident and everything is fine," Fosnaugh said. Purdue police and fire departments were dispatched to the scene to assist the airport's emergency crew. Flight 5376 was a connecting flight for Delta Air Lines. Comair is a regional subsidiary of Delta. Comair and Delta are not carries that serve Purdue's airport. The flight's passengers and crew will remain at the Purdue Airport until a replacement jet arrives to continue the flight to Cincinnati, Fosnaugh said.
