May 14, 2002 Former library clerk charged with theft WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police today (Tuesday, 5/14) arrested a former university library clerk on 86 counts of theft after an internal audit revealed that cash was missing from accounts for coin-operated copy machines and proceeds from the sale of copy machine cards. Tamara Sue Spangler, 36, of Lafayette, left the university on April 15 when the theft was first confirmed, said Steve Dietrich, Purdue captain of investigations. Spangler is suspected of taking as much as $38,000 over a period of 12 to 18 months and also is suspected of falsifying her time card. Theft is a Class D felony punishable by up to one and a half years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Writer: Sharon A.
