Purdue Varsity Glee Club to tour China

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Varsity Glee Club is preparing for a May international concert tour of China.

After a weekend of commencement performances, the Glee Club leaves for China on Monday, May 13. The Glee Club will visit the cities of Beijing, Xian, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Concert stops include The Great Wall, Peking University, the Forbidden City Concert Hall, a Yangtze River cruise ship, the Shanghai Music Hall and the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and his wife, Patty, will join the group in Hong Kong during the final leg of the tour for a farewell reception with Purdue alumni in China. The trip will conclude Monday, May 27.

The Glee Club has 57 members. They are:

• Mike Allen, a senior telecommunications major from Newburgh, Ind.

• D.J. Barksdale, a junior materials science engineering major from New Albany, Ind.

• Dan Bender, a junior aerospace engineering major from Saginaw, Mich.

• Al Borchelt, a junior industrial distributing major from Goshen, Ind.

• Matt Broge, a senior organizational leadership studies major from Lafayette, Ind.

• Joel Brovont, a freshman management major from Rossville, Ind.

• Andrew Brown, a freshman engineering major from Lafayette, Ind.

• Tony Buck, a sophomore food science major from Lafayette, Ind.

• Kent Campbell, a sophomore mechanical engineering major from West Lafayette, Ind.

• Scott Clayton, a freshman management major from Granger, Ind.

• Kyle Cohlhepp, a freshman management major from Marion, Ind.

• Randy Cook, a freshman electrical engineering technology major from Indianapolis.

Purdue Musical Organizations director Brian Breed says the trip promises to be memorable for Glee Club members.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for these talented young men to represent Purdue University as ambassadors," Breed says. "This culturally and spiritually rich corner of the world will offer a breathtaking journey that will last a lifetime."

Tour updates with photos and a daily journal from students and guests will be posted each day starting Thursday, May 16, to PMO's Web site.
