Purdue elects new student government officers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue students have elected a new student government president and vice president.

Running under the slogan, "focused on service," Gregory Canfield, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering from Rockford, Ill, and Stephanie Warner, a junior majoring in agricultural education from South Whitley, Ind., were chosen by a 60 percent margin over two other tickets.

Canfield said he wants to ensure that Purdue Student Government is a primary advocate for student concerns.

"It is our hope that at the end of our term we will have increased student awareness of campus issues that affect them, created a strong network of student organizations capable of mobilizing to protect student rights, speak out for student values and help create a better living environment for the Purdue community," Canfield said.

Student government elections take place each March. Officers serve a one-year term.
