Commencement ceremonies scheduled for Purdue graduates

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University will award degrees at five campuses and seven Statewide Technology sites throughout Indiana during commencement ceremonies in May.

Ceremonies are scheduled at the West Lafayette campus May 10-12. Approximately 5,200 students – 4,277 of whom are undergraduates – will earn degrees during four ceremonies.

Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and Phillip A. Waid, president of the Purdue Alumni Association, will address graduates at each ceremony in the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music.

The commencement ceremonies will feature two large video screens above the Hall of Music stage. The screen will display a close-up image of each graduate as he or she is congratulated by the dean after receiving the diploma.

Tickets, issued to graduation participants for family and friends, are required for admission to the hall.

The ceremony schedule is:

• Friday, May 10, 8 p.m., Schools of Education and Engineering. A class response will be provided by Matthew C. Newton, an electrical and computer engineering major from Vernon Hills, Ill.

• Saturday, May 11, 9:30 a.m., Schools of Liberal Arts, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Sciences. A class response will be provided by Jill E. Butler, a health sciences major from Indianapolis.

• Saturday, May 11, 2:30 p.m., Schools of Agriculture, Consumer and Family Sciences, Science, and Veterinary Medicine. A class response will be provided by Eric Steiner, an agricultural education major from Berne, Ind.

• Sunday, May 12, 9:30 a.m., Schools of Management and Technology. A class response will be provided by Brian LeRoy Amos, a building and construction management technology major from Granger, Ind.

Commencement videos for each school will be available to new graduates, their families and friends. The video costs $25 plus $5 postage and handling. Order forms are available at the Purdue box offices and will be available from hall ushers at the ceremonies. The Hall of Music box office will accept order forms before and after each commencement ceremony.

Commencement times and locations at other Purdue campuses are:

• Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at the RCA Dome. Approximately 939 degrees will be awarded to Dec. 2001-Aug. 2002 graduates.

• Purdue North Central, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7 at the Valparaiso University Chapel and 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Westville Correctional Center. A total of 443 degrees will be awarded.

• Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 15 at the Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Center. A total of 628 degrees will be awarded.

• Purdue Calumet, 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 19, at the Star Plaza Theater in Merriville. Approximately 687 degrees will be awarded.

Statewide Technology commencements will be:

• New Albany, Monday, May 6, 6:30 p.m. at the Ampitheater, Indiana University Southeast;

• South Bend-Elkhart, Tuesday, May 7, 7 p.m. at the Joyce Center, University of Notre Dame;

• Richmond, Friday, May 10, 6 p.m. at Richmond High School;

• Anderson-Muncie, Saturday, May 11, 3 p.m. at Warner Auditorium, Anderson University;

• Columbus, Sunday, May 12, 7 p.m. at the Columbus Holiday Inn;

• Kokomo, Tuesday, May 14, 1:30 p.m., at the Kelley Center, Indiana University, Kokomo (or at the Havens Auditorium if raining).
