President Jischke to discuss research funding on next radio show

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University President Martin C. Jischke will discuss research funding from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, during his live call-in radio show on WBAA's "AM920 Magazine."

Jischke will talk about funding sources, how Purdue secures research funding and the success Purdue has had in increasing the level of funding. He will discuss the involvement of faculty and students in research and how research affects teaching. The economic impact of Discovery Park and the Purdue Research Park also will serve as a topic of discussion.

Listeners will have the opportunity to ask questions during the show. Local listeners can call (765) 496-1999. Listeners outside the local calling area can call toll-free at (866) 922-2101.

WBAA manager Dan Skinner says he hopes listeners will take advantage of the opportunity to speak directly with the president about research funding, especially since the president took the time to address state budget concerns during his last show.

"Research funding is an important topic for many people in the Purdue community," Skinner says. "But, realizing that callers were very interested in the state's budget crisis and the impact it will have on the university, the president fielded caller questions last month instead. We want to give listeners another opportunity to discuss the work Purdue researchers are doing today and how it will have an impact on our future world."

The station's AM signal reaches approximately two-thirds of Indiana and may be heard globally via the station's Web site.
