Jahari Dance Troupe to perform in Spring Revue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Black Cultural Center's Jahari Dance Troupe will showcase traditional to contemporary trends in black dance on Saturday (4/20) with its final performance of the season.

The performance, entitled "Lights, Camera, Action! Jahari Spring Revue," is set for 7 p.m. in the Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. A repertoire of African, Caribbean, folk, ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance will be performed. Professional artists-in-residence Paula Leland and Mark Vaughn, both based in Chicago, have joined students in providing choreography for the production.

Dancer Stephany Spaulding, who also serves as the program coordinator for the Black Cultural Center's Performing Arts Ensembles, says the performance should be entertaining for audience members of all ages.

"This is a great opportunity for the Greater Lafayette community to celebrate the lived experiences of the African diaspora through dance," Spaulding says. "This production should prove to be an enriching experience for all involved as the dancers share fundamental cultural aspects of the black community. A community thrives best when there is an equal exchange of humanistic endeavors, such as Jahari's Spring Revue."

Tickets for the performance are $5 for students and $7 for the general public. They can be purchased in the Stewart Center Box Office or by calling (765) 494-3933.
