Conference looks at rural wastewater issues

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A two-day conference focusing on rural community wastewater issues is being cosponsored by Purdue University Cooperative Extension on April 23-24.

The Alternative Solutions for Small Community Wastewater Problems program will address wastewater challenges faced by small communities and those without sewers. Presenters will talk about nontraditional and cost-effective alternatives to septic systems, information on formalized maintenance procedures, regulatory approval procedures and funding options.

Purdue is hosting the conference along with the Rural Community Assistance Program, Environmental Protection Agency, Indiana State Department of Health, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, Indiana Onsite Wastewater Professionals Association and Indiana Environmental Health.

The conference will be at the University Inn Conference Center in West Lafayette, Ind. Conference registration before April 23 is $25 for one day and $35 for both days. Registration at the door is $45. Reservations can be made at the University Inn by calling (800) 777-9808 or online. A special rate for lodging is available at $73 a night for a single or $80 a night for a double.
