Purdue Women in Engineering Career Day set for April 8

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – High school juniors who are considering a career in engineering are invited to Women in Engineering Career Day at Purdue University from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, in the Stewart Center.

The event, sponsored by the Schools of Engineering and the Society of Women Engineers at Purdue, will feature lectures and demonstrations on the various areas of engineering. Purdue chemical engineering alumna Cece Berger, who is a product developer in research for Kimberley-Clark Corp., will present a keynote address.

Participants also can pose questions during two panel discussions. One panel will be composed of practicing women engineers; the other will consist of women engineering students. A special session on financial aid and a question-and-answer session with the director of the Women in Engineering Program also will be conducted. Parents and teachers are invited to attend with students.

Carol Stwalley, event organizer and assistant director of the Women in Engineering Program, says Women in Engineering Career Day provides a unique opportunity for female students to gain firsthand knowledge of the many career opportunities available to engineers.

"Purdue's reputation for excellence is worldwide and our Women in Engineering Program is part of this standard of excellence," Stwalley says. "Because more women have earned undergraduate engineering degrees at Purdue University than at any other school in the country, employers look to Purdue for young women with an outstanding engineering education."

The fee, which includes lunch, is $10 per student and $15 for parents and teachers. The registration deadline is Monday, April 1.
