March 8, 2002 Milk pricing and risk management workshops to be offered WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Volatile milk prices make it difficult for dairy farmers to budget and plan for the future. To help producers strategize for success, workshops are being held in two locations across the state March 27 and 28 These one-day workshops will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Noble County fairgrounds in Kendallville, Ind., on March 27, and repeated at the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service Office of Bartholomew County in Columbus, Ind., on March 28. Mike Schutz, Extension dairy specialist, says the workshops will give milk producers the tools they need to succeed. "Dairy producers need to understand milk pricing and production costs in order to develop a marketing strategy," he says. "The purpose of these workshops is to familiarize dairy producers with how milk prices are determined, and help them understand milk futures, options and forward contracts." A registration fee of $5 is required to cover the cost of materials and lunch. Participants should preregister by March 20. After March 20 registration will be $10 per person.
