March 8, 2002 Highlights of 2001 at Purdue on videoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 47th edition of the Purdue Newsreel is now available for viewing from the Instructional Media Center in the Purdue Undergraduate Library or for purchase from the Purdue Alumni Association. The 23-minute program, which highlights Purdue events from 2001, was produced by the Office of University Relations. The "Purdue Newsreel 2001: A Year Of Change" is sponsored by the Alumni Association, the Alumni Foundation and the Office of the President. It is shown to Purdue alumni clubs around the world. A copy of the newsreel on VHS videotape can be purchased for $19.95 plus $3 for shipping and handling from the Purdue Alumni Association, Room 160, Purdue Memorial Union, 101 N. Highlights in the 2001 newsreel include: the 5-year strategic plan; announcement of Discovery Park and other Discover Purdue events; details about the Birck Nanotechnology Center; memorial services following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks; research involving Japanese quail eggs in space; the Challenger Learning Center at Purdue Calumet; a School of Education program to prepare teachers to use technology; the Technical Assistance Program; the new Office for Engagement in Indianapolis; projects by mechanical engineering students; the 75th anniversary for the School of Consumer and Family Sciences; Grand Prix; the Champions Make Choices, Choices Make Champions campaign; the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest; the reopening of the Purdue Mall fountain sculpture; commencement; the return of the Homecoming parade; the 80th anniversary of the Big Bass drum; the Alumni Band; new twirlers in the band; Homecoming at the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus; a speech by the head of the NAACP; the International Food Bazaar and the 30th anniversary for the International Center; the swing dancing club; the PMO Christmas Show; administrative changes at Purdue; updates on construction projects involving Ross-Ade Stadium, Rawls Hall, the Visual and Performing Arts Building; and announcement of plans for the Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center. The 2001 newsreel is narrated by 1981 Purdue graduate Tim Newton, who is director of external relations and communication for the Krannert School of Management. The program was produced and directed by Ray Cubberley, assistant director of university relations for broadcast services.
