For additional information, call (765) 494-8396 March 1-2: Power Of Cheese WorkshopThe Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in Floyd County is hosting a series of workshops intended to increase awareness of the opportunities in cheese production. The first workshop is March 1-2, in Greenville, Ind. The workshop provides an opportunity to educate a diverse farm audience on increasing sustainability, raising the value of farm products, and especially raising the value of milk by converting it to cheese. This workshop series is funded by the Livestock Promotion Program from the office of the Commissioner of Agriculture in Indiana. Registration is 8-9 a.m. The first session begins at 9 a.m. and the event ends at 4:30 p.m. The registration fee is $25 per participant. March 4 & 6: Estate And Business Transfer Planning Series - Tippecanoe CountyThis two-part series is sponsored by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in Tippecanoe County, the Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University and the Greater Lafayette Community Foundation. Both sessions run 7-9:30 p.m., and will be at the Extension office in Lafayette, Ind. Session I will cover the topics of property ownership law, probate, the benefits of having a will, Indiana inheritance taxes and other items. Session II will discuss charitable planning income, gift and estate tax planning, valuation of farmland, new family-owned business interest deductions, and other issues. Topics for the program are intended for individuals, spouses, adult children and other professionals who assist people in estate and financial planning. The fee is $20 per person, $5 for a registered person’s spouse and $50 for those seeking professional continuing education credit. March 6: Southwest Indiana Crop Management SeminarThe Southwest Indiana Crop Management Seminar will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. EST on March 6 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Jasper, Ind. This free seminar will help Indiana farmers deal with the challenges of balancing row crop, forage and environmental needs. The one-day seminar will equip producers with the knowledge to increase profits while addressing environmental concerns. Major areas to be covered include: no-till management, forage management, and soybean and corn production. This event is sponsored by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Soil and Conservation, Indiana Soybean Board, local soil and water conservation districts, and an Environmental Protection Agency Section 319 grant. March 21: Symposium On Agriculture In France And AmericaA symposium titled "The Politics and Promise of Agriculture in France and in America: A Comparative Perspective" is being sponsored by the Indiana Humanities Council and hosted by the International Programs in Agriculture Office of Purdue University. The symposium will be on the Purdue campus in the Krannert Auditorium from 2-4 p.m., followed by refreshments. The event is free and open to the public. The symposium will explore issues important to trans-Atlantic views on agriculture, such as government policy, new technology, economics, marketing and trade issues, environmental issues, food safety, and social issues of the future of the family farm and rural/urban interface. There will be brief presentations by each of the guest panelists followed by a discussion period with the audience.
