February 7, 2002 Police seek painting stolen from Memorial UnionWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University police are investigating the theft of an oil painting reported missing from the Memorial Union on Wednesday (2/6). Purdue police Capt. Ron Fosnaugh said the three-by-six foot canvas depicts a 1930s-era Purdue football team during a touchdown drive. The painting normally hangs outside the service entrance to the Sweet Shop on the ground floor of the Union. Police believe the painting was taken sometime between noon Friday (2/1) and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (2/5). The painting, by E. Pierre Wainwright, is valued at $10,000.
