No ticket? No problem – Fish Fry broadcast on Internet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tickets are sold out for Saturday's (2/2) Purdue University Ag Alumni Fish Fry, but those with Internet access still can claim a front-row seat for all the festivities.

The Fish Fry program, including a keynote speech by former U.S. senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole, will be broadcast live on the Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association Web site. The broadcast can be seen by logging onto the association's Fish Fry page. It also will be archived at the site for viewing anytime.

The streaming broadcast is best viewed using Apple QuickTime version 4.1 or greater. The software may be downloaded at the Apple Web site. Users should plan to download the large file well before the Fish Fry broadcast starts at 12:15 p.m. EST. Dole will take the podium at approximately 1 p.m.

This year's Fish Fry moves to the Cumberland Place Exhibition Center in West Lafayette, Ind., after years at the Purdue Armory. The program also is different than those in previous years. One constant from past events is the main lunch entrée: pork tenderloin.

Dole, a Kansas Republican who served as Senate majority leader and was selected the GOP's presidential nominee in 1996, will speak on the topic, "Leadership and Values in the 21st Century." The address will present the challenges confronting the United States and the world in the midst of political and economic changes. The speech promises to contain many first-hand accounts, delivered with Dole's wry sense of humor.

Preceding the Fish Fry at 9:15 a.m. is the annual Ag Forecast, at the University Inn Conference Center, next to Cumberland Place. U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Jim Moseley will discuss biosecurity, environmental issues and the new farm bill. Farm broadcaster Orion Samuelson of the Tribune Radio Network, Chicago, and the "U.S. Farm Report" TV show, will serve as moderator.

Admission to the Ag Forecast is free. The Ag Forecast can be viewed at the Fish Fry Web page beginning 8 a.m. Monday (2/4).
