January 25, 2002 Appointments and promotions; campus events Appointments and promotions – Ben Paolillo has joined the Purdue Alumni Association as the assistant director for alumni clubs. Paolillo will work directly with alumni club leaders in developing new programming interests. He also will assist in coordinating various conferences and speaker programs. The association has 125 alumni clubs worldwide. Paolillo has been involved with Purdue’s women’s track and cross country teams since 1984. He was named head coach in 1993 and led the team to three Big Ten Championships. Paolillo also was named Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2001 and Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 1999. In 2001 he became an assistant to the athletic director in charge of special projects. Paolillo is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, earning a bachelor’s degree in business education in 1982 and a master’s degree in educational administration in 1986. – Larry Fusaro has joined Physical Facilities as university architect. He will be responsible for campus planning and major capital projects. Before coming to Purdue, Fusaro served as the director for the Facility Capital Development Department with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, in Iowa City, Iowa. The department was responsible for more than 100 new and phased remodeling projects per year for the Iowa City hospital and outreach clinic facilities. He has more than 25 years of architectural experience in both public and private practice. Fusaro earned his bachelor's of design-architecture and a bachelor's of building construction from the University of Florida and a master's of architecture from Clemson University. Fusaro replaces Thomas Schmenk, Purdue's director of facilities planning and university architect. Schmenk came to Purdue in 1968 and became university architect in 1972. Schmenk will serve as assistant to Vice President for Physical Facilities Wayne Kjonaas until June. Campus activities – The Families of Freedom Scholarship fund is accepting applications from students who had a family member killed or disabled in terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. The fund, established by the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, will begin awarding scholarships this month. Former President Bill Clinton and former senator Robert Dole are co-chairs for the campaign effort. More information about the fund or application information is available at https://www.familiesoffreedom.org or from the Purdue Division of Financial Aid. – Purdue faculty and staff are invited to a presentation entitled, "Bringing Out the Best in the People You Work With" by Les Parrott III, an award-winning author and professor of clinical psychology at Seattle Pacific University. The presentation will be held from 10 a.m.- noon Friday, Feb. 8 in Fowler Hall. Parrott has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences and seminars for executives, government officials, professional athletes and college students. The author of, "High Maintenance Relationships, How to Handle Impossible People," Parrott is the founder and director of the Center for Relationship Development. – Purdue students who will graduate in 2002 and plan to pursue an advanced degree at Purdue are invited to apply for one of ten graduate fellowships from Mortar Board. Each fellowship will be worth at least $2500. Applicants must have a minimum graduate index of 3.2.
