Ballots to go out soon for mint check-off

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Mint growers will soon receive ballot forms for the 2002 referendum on the continuation of the Indiana Mint Market Development Council.

The council, which supports research and development programs for mint and mint oil products, is financed by a check-off which amounts to four cents per pound of mint oil.

If the referendum passes, funds will continue to be collected at the point of first sale. Growers may obtain a form for a check-off refund if they do not want to contribute.

Under state law, the council is overseen by Purdue's director of Agricultural Research Programs. Ballots for the 2002 referendum will be distributed by mail to registered growers. Those not registered can do so at their local county Extension office or by contacting W.R. Woodson, director of Agricultural Research Programs, (765) 494-8362.

Certification forms and ballots must be postmarked by March 29 to be counted.
