Indiana sheep producers vote to continue check-off program

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Registered sheep producers in Indiana have voted to continue the check-off program for the Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Council for another three years.

The council, which supports research, promotion, and producer and consumer education on sheep and wool products, is financed by the check-off, which amounts to 25 cents per sheep and 1 cent per pound of shorn wool.

Elections were held for four sheep and wool district director positions on the council. There are 11 directors who serve three-year terms representing specific areas in the state. New council directors for 2002 will be Michael Brumbaugh of Albion, Ind., District 2; Chris Schakel of Oxford, Ind., District 4; Dave Mundt of Danville, Ind., District 8. Stan Poe II of Franklin, Ind. was re-elected to serve as the director of District 7.

The office of Agricultural Research Programs at Purdue University determined the results of the referendum for continuation of the Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Council.
