All-Boilermaker team to crew Virgin Galactic suborbital mission Purdue 1
Building on its tremendous space legacy, Purdue is pursuing a groundbreaking opportunity — research and learning aboard a Virgin Galactic suborbital spaceflight with an all-Boilermaker crew. The flight, dubbed Purdue 1, is expected to lift off in 2027. Purdue researchers and students plan to personally conduct and oversee experiments in microgravity, setting a precedent for academic access to space.

Purdue researchers make key advances in 2D nanomaterials for extreme applications
Two-dimensional nanomaterials only a few atoms thick are being explored for a range of critical applications in biomedicine, electronics, nanodevices, energy storage and other areas, especially to enhance performance in extreme environments and ultrademanding conditions. Babak Anasori is the Reilly Rising Star Associate Professor of Materials and Mechanical Engineering at Purdue. His research group studies the family of 2D materials known as MXenes, which were discovered in 2011 and have since become the largest known family of 2D nanomaterials.

Purdue team awarded $1.2M NIH grant to develop smart pacifier for infant breathing monitoring
The National Institutes of Health, specifically the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, has awarded $1,197,891 to Purdue Polytechnic Institute’s Miad Faezipour and her team to develop a groundbreaking smart pacifier that could transform the way doctors monitor infant breathing. Faezipour is an associate professor in the School of Engineering Technology.
