Co-edited by Marisa Exter, associate professor of learning design and technology, the edited volume’s inclusion of learning-focused usability research offers readers further insights into how learners interact with designed learning experiences.
A molecular machine derived from bacteria, CRISPR-Cas9, revolutionized our ability to edit genes and accelerated research into treatments for all manner of diseases with a genetic link. Now, researchers at Purdue are investigating a similar, but more powerful, molecular machine, that moves so-called “jumping genes” into new locations in bacterial DNA.
The Purdue Student Union Board will host Harvest Fest Sept. 20, kicking off the season with a celebration of autumn and the annual harvest. Harvest Fest will run from 2-5 p.m. on Memorial Mall. Activities include pumpkin painting, Frisbee painting, fall wreath and gnome making, yard games, a photo booth, and more. Free Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee will be available for the first 300 attendees.

A custom guitar designed in Purdue’s Guitar Lab by professor Mark French and Noah Scott is helping the Colts honor late owner Jim Irsay. Commissioned by head coach Shane Steichen, the guitar was completed in less than a month with help from Lafayette community partners. Presented to Irsay’s daughters before the Sept. 7 home opener, the guitar will be carried into every Colts game this season in his memory.
