Disease detectives: Veterinary medicine scientists help state officials battle against avian influenza
When avian influenza surged across Indiana in winter and spring 2025, Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s “disease detectives” — including DVM alum Kyle Shipman and state partners — sprang into action. Together with the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, they helped coordinate rapid testing, surveillance and response efforts to protect Indiana’s flocks. Jenna Rickus, senior vice provost for teaching and learning at Purdue, has been awarded the Michael C. Holen Pacesetter Award by the National Academic Advising Association. NACADA is an international nonprofit association that represents and supports academic advising professionals across higher education.

Trustees approve Indianapolis real estate purchase to serve as Student Center
The Purdue Board of Trustees on Friday (Aug. 8) approved the purchase of real estate at 518-520 Indiana Ave. in Indianapolis from the Purdue Research Foundation to serve as a Student Center for the Indianapolis location. The two-story, 25,000-square-foot facility will open for the fall semester and operate similarly to the Krach Leadership Center in West Lafayette.
