Purdue alumna and new Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White, a Boilermaker legend who guided her team to an NCAA basketball championship in 1999, will return to campus Feb. 11 for a Presidential Lecture Series conversation with Purdue President Mung Chiang. Her Presidential Lecture appearance, titled “A Boilermaker Legend: On and Off the Court,” is at 6 p.m. in Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse.
Congratulations to Purdue researchers across all campuses and academic disciplines. They have recently received 16 patents on their intellectual property from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Five researchers at Purdue received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) earlier this month. This award is given by the U.S. government to outstanding scientists and engineers beginning their independent careers. These researchers exemplify Purdue’s values of persistence and innovation. PECASE, given annually to select scientists and engineers, highlights the hard work, excellence and exemplary nature of Purdue’s research programs and personnel.
Registration remains open for faculty to attend the Westwood Lecture Series on Tuesday (Jan. 28). Suresh Mittal, Distinguished Professor of Virology in the College of Veterinary Medicine, will present “Universal Influenza Vaccine — An Aspiration or Reality?” from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Westwood, the Purdue president’s residence.
Adriana Harmeyer, clinical assistant professor and archivist for university history, made her “Jeopardy!” dreams come true last year after winning 15 consecutive games for a total of $351,600. Harmeyer will return to compete in the annual “Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions,” which premieres today (Jan. 27).
