The Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday (Oct. 24) announced that the Purdue University Airport will receive a $1.5 million grant to support construction of the new Amelia Earhart Terminal. State legislative leaders, including Gov. Eric Holcomb, U.S. Sens. Todd Young and Mike Braun, and U.S. Rep. Jim Baird propelled the grant forward, signing letters of support to the FAA. The FAA awarded funds for the new terminal based on the existing facility’s age and the need to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Provost Patrick Wolfe announced Thursday (Oct. 24) that Dr. Bret Marsh, Indiana state veterinarian and the state’s top-ranking animal health leader, will join Purdue to serve as its next dean and hospital CEO of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Marsh succeeds distinguished veterinary pathologist and campus leader Willie Reed, who served 17 years as dean and for whom the Reed Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory on campus is named.
Purdue will host semiconductor industry leaders on campus and in Washington, D.C., as part of the university’s third annual Semiconductor Week. Representatives of SK hynix, MediaTek, McKinsey & Company and Applied Research Institute will be among the speakers at the SEMI Breakfast Forum on Tuesday (Oct. 29) in the Purdue Memorial Union. SK hynix announced plans in April to build an advanced packaging fabrication and R&D facility for AI products in the Purdue Research Park.
Michael Berghoff, chair of the Purdue University Board of Trustees, was inducted into the Boiler Business Exchange of Indianapolis Hall of Fame on Wednesday (Oct. 23). BBE is a nonprofit group that seeks to raise the profile of Purdue University in Indianapolis by facilitating the university’s business-to-business exchange.
The Presidential Lecture Series event next week featuring Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek is being moved from Fowler Hall to the larger Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center because of strong interest. Wilczek, considered one of the world’s most eminent theoretical physicists and a pioneer in modern quantum theory, will join President Mung Chiang on Wednesday (Oct. 30) for the Presidential Lecture conversation. The event is free and open to the public, but a general admission ticket
is required. Existing Wilczek tickets for Fowler Hall will be honored for Loeb Playhouse, so there’s no need to reregister.
