Michael Berghoff, chair of the Purdue University Board of Trustees, announced today (Oct. 4) that he will retire from the board effective Jan. 1, 2025, after more than 15 years of service as a trustee. A 1985 Purdue graduate with a bachelor’s degree in industrial management, Berghoff was appointed a Purdue trustee in 2009 and has served as chair since July 2015.
Purdue University’s Board of Trustees today (Oct. 4) elected Gary Lehman as chair and Mike Klipsch as vice chair, effective Jan. 1, 2025. The action comes after the announcement that current chair Michael Berghoff will retire from the board at the end of 2024.
Recognizing the continued strong demand for affordable, on-campus room and board, the Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Oct. 4) approved housing and dining rates for the 2025-26 academic year. Trustees approved a tiered increase in housing rates, with 79% of beds increasing by less than $50 per month. Meanwhile, meal plans will continue to reflect simplicity and flexibility, as well as affordability. With an annual price ranging from $1,760-$5,894 (a 3.5% increase of $60-$199), 2025-26 rates will continue to remain below the Big Ten average for comparable plans, and students can select a plan that fits their needs and budget.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Oct. 4) approved naming the School of Industrial Engineering for alumnus John A. Edwardson (BS industrial engineering ’71, HDR ’06) in recognition of $25 million in total gift commitments to support students, faculty and programming. The school, which U.S. News & World Report ranked No. 2 for undergraduate programs in 2024, will be known as the Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering.
The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Oct. 4) reviewed the 2023-24 performance evaluation for President Mung Chiang and voted to approve his at-risk pay at 104%, based on measures set out by the trustees in October 2023. Trustees voted to evaluate Chiang on 20 key performance measures in five areas: financial success (18%), student success (32%), research (20%), reputation (10%) and university initiatives (20%).
In his report to the Board of Trustees, President Mung Chiang led a discussion updating on Purdue University in Indianapolis, which officially launched July 1 and brings a new and fully integrated expansion of Purdue University to the capital city. He also recognized faculty who received significant sponsored research awards from May through September and thanked friends of the university for their recent generous contributions.
