Leaders in chips, quantum and bioscience demonstrate Indiana-Illinois corridor technology advancement and innovation at Purdue-hosted conference
Leaders from industry, government, academia and national laboratories recently gathered at Purdue for a conference that highlighted the leading role of the Indiana-Illinois innovation corridor in advancing three critical technologies: semiconductors, quantum science and advanced bioscience. The event was hosted by the Council on Competitiveness, Purdue, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois System.

Purdue team unravels regulatory mechanism that prevents stem cell differentiation and maintains gender balance in vascular plants
Purdue plant scientists have identified a protein that plays a previously unknown role in controlling cell differentiation and determining gender in vascular plants, using a fern model. The discovery provides new insights into the stem cell-proliferation process that ensures the species’ reproduction and survival by preventing all offspring from developing as males.

Purdue Memorial Union to hold centennial celebration
The Purdue Memorial Union is concluding its weeklong celebration of a century of tradition and community with a pinnacle event from 12-1:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 17) in the Great Hall. The celebration will feature keynote speeches, the unveiling of the 1924 time capsule, the packing of a new 2024 capsule and a ceremonial bell ringing to mark the centennial. The event is open to the Purdue community.

Research center celebrates opening of Smart Crossways operations center at Purdue Airport
Purdue’s Center on AI for Digital, Autonomous and Augmented Aviation on Tuesday (Sept. 10) unveiled its state-of-the-art testing facility, the Smart Operations Center for Smart Crossways, at the Purdue University Airport during a public event. A series of live demonstrations also showcased the capabilities of autonomous aerial vehicles in an urban air-mobility environment.
