The event was hosted by the Council on Competitiveness, Purdue, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois System.
Purdue plant scientists have identified a protein that plays a previously unknown role in controlling cell differentiation and determining gender in vascular plants, using a fern model. The discovery provides new insights into the stem cell-proliferation process that ensures the species’ reproduction and survival by preventing all offspring from developing as males.
The Purdue Memorial Union is concluding its weeklong celebration of a century of tradition and community with a pinnacle event from 12-1:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 17) in the Great Hall.
