Purdue commercial air service underway following inaugural flight, groundbreaking
Commercial air service has returned to the Purdue University Airport, marking the next chapter in the university’s storied tradition of aviation. At 6:20 a.m. Wednesday (May 15), the first Southern Airways Express flight departed Purdue University Airport in West Lafayette, traveling to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Southern Airways will operate flights between the two airports seven days a week, with 24 weekly round-trip flights currently planned. Related: Photo gallery of Inaugural Commercial Flight Ceremony.

Analytical chemistry grad students land competitive fellowships to fund research
Purdue Department of Chemistry graduate students Megan Hill and Brady Layman have been awarded prestigious national fellowships to continue their research. Hill was awarded the University Nuclear Leadership Program Fellowship funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy. Layman won two highly competitive awards — the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Both are students in professor Jeffrey Dick’s electrochemistry lab where the group specializes in making the immeasurable measurable.

Purdue and Wabash collaborate on trailer that recaptures its own energy
Purdue researchers have teamed up with Wabash, the largest trailer manufacturer in the country, to investigate an experimental trailer that recaptures its own electricity from vibrations, heat and airflow.

Dean Bullard, Distinguished Fellow Malpass to join Purdue President Chiang for Presidential Lecture Series fireside chat in Indianapolis
Two of the world’s best minds in finance will join Purdue President Mung Chiang this month for a Presidential Lecture Series fireside chat at Purdue University in Indianapolis. The invitation-only event, titled “Interest Rates, Global Finance and Midwest Prosperity,” will feature James “Jim” Bullard, appointed the inaugural Dr. Samuel R. Allen Dean of the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business in August, and David Malpass, the Distinguished Fellow of International Finance in the Daniels School and Inaugural Fellow of Global Business and Infrastructure at Purdue@DC, who joined Purdue in January.
