Purdue has joined the Chicago Quantum Exchange in the collaborative effort to advance the science and engineering of quantum information, build the future quantum workforce, and drive the nation’s quantum economy. As the newest member of the CQE, Purdue joins interdisciplinary research activity anchored by the University of Chicago, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Northwestern University.
Xavier Howard is no stranger to firsts. Howard is not only a member of the first graduating class of Purdue Polytechnic High School, he’s also now the first PPHS graduate to earn a degree from Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus — and he did it in just three years. Howard will be among the thousands of graduates being celebrated May 10-12 during Purdue’s commencement ceremonies
taking place at Elliott Hall of Music. The spring 2024 graduating class will include 8,284 undergraduates, 2,323 graduate students, 210 students from professional programs and 244 students from Purdue Polytechnic’s statewide programs.

A team led by Purdue soybean geneticist Jianxin Ma has developed a new biotechnological tool for the domestication of desirable traits from wild soybeans, such as resistance to leafhopper insect pests. The use of such tools, called de novo domestication, makes it easier for scientists to engineer crop improvements from wild soybeans.
Chris Greene, a theoretical physicist and the Albert Overhauser Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, has been named Purdue’s Morrill Award winner for 2024. The Morrill Award is the highest honor that Purdue confers on a faculty member and recognizes faculty who best exhibit excellence in teaching, research and engagement.
Tara Grillos, an associate professor of political science in the College of Liberal Arts, has been named Purdue’s Trailblazer Award winner for 2024.
