The Indiana Department of Transportation, Cummins, White Construction and Purdue ceremoniously broke ground May 1 for a highway segment where Purdue engineers will test a system they designed to wirelessly provide power to a heavy-duty electric truck traveling at highway speeds.
A major hurricane, a power outage, a pandemic — none of these were going to stop Teomie Rivera-Miranda from achieving her goals. The native of Puerto Rico, who has “always been fascinated by animals, insects and plants,” is pursuing her PhD in Purdue’s forensic entomology program, working in the lab headed by Krystal Hans, assistant professor of entomology/forensics. When Rivera-Miranda completes her PhD in May 2025, she wants to remain in academia and work as a forensic entomology consultant.
Special issue to highlight Purdue teaching award winners
Every spring Purdue University honors instructors who go above and beyond to provide exceptional educational experiences. The 2024 winners were surprised in their classrooms in March, receiving one of three honors: the Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, the Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award or the Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers. A Purdue Today special issue coming today (May 2) will feature these teachers' stories.
Brandon Sorge has been named the assistant vice provost for Indianapolis faculty affairs, effective April 1. Sorge will be coordinating with multiple areas within Purdue, including engagement, service learning, teaching and learning, faculty affairs, and department heads.
