Genetically engineering a treatment for incurable brain tumors
Purdue researchers are developing and validating a patent-pending treatment for incurable glioblastoma brain tumors. Glioblastomas are almost always lethal with a median survival time of 14 months. Traditional methods used against other cancers, like chemotherapy and immunotherapy, are often ineffective on glioblastoma.

Purdue health and kinesiology researcher focuses on the biomechanics of Parkinson’s disease
Satya Ambike is an associate professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology whose research focuses on the biomechanics and control of “task switching” in Parkinson’s disease. Ambike is collaborating in multiple ongoing projects on physical ailments that present themselves in most PD patients — impaired dexterity or hand strength, and less adaptable locomotion or walking.

New initiatives underway to address food waste on West Lafayette campus
New initiatives are underway on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus to expand existing food waste diversion and reduction efforts. The Sustainability department, a unit within the Administrative Operations organization, has been working to decrease the amount of food waste sent to a landfill.

Purdue lab revolutionizes social science research through big data analysis
On March 19, students from Purdue’s Computational Social Science Lab gathered in the Joe and Maggie Kernan Experimental Social Science Lab in Beering Hall to continue their research. The lab is the first of its kind to research social sciences through the analysis of “big data.”
