Photo gallery: Total solar eclipse viewing event at IMS, presented by Purdue
For 3 minutes and 44 seconds, hundreds of thousands of people across areas of the state watched as the moon passed and completely covered the sun. Purdue University, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and NASA presented a special viewing event at the iconic Indianapolis racetrack, where more than 50,000 attendees — including five Boilermaker astronauts — participated in panel sessions, STEM-related activities and celebrations related to the eclipse.

Purdue-invented concrete strength sensing system finalist for Edison Award
A Purdue invention that could help reduce time and money spent on the construction and repair of concrete highway pavement and other structures has been selected as a finalist for an Edison Award in the Critical Human Infrastructure category. The Edison Awards, considered the “Oscars of innovation,” are given annually to “recognize the persistence and excellence that also characterized Thomas Edison’s work.” Luna Lu, Purdue’s Reilly Professor of Civil Engineering, has led development of the sensor technology since 2017.

Embracing service-learning and engagement is not only a way to expand your education, but also is “an essential component that completes the learning journey,” said Emmanuel Babalola, a third-year PhD student specializing in learning, design and technology in Purdue’s College of Education. Babalola was recently a 2024 Engagement and Service-Learning Summit speaker.

Purdue sets schedule and announces student responders for spring commencement ceremonies
Small steps will soon culminate in a giant leap for Purdue’s Class of 2024 as the university prepares for eight commencement ceremonies at Elliott Hall of Music on May 10-12. The spring 2024 graduating class will include 8,284 undergraduates, 2,323 graduate students, 210 students from professional programs and 244 students from Purdue Polytechnic’s statewide programs.
