Purdue's historic season comes to a close with loss to UConn in national championship game
Following a phenomenal season, Purdue's quest for its first men’s basketball national championship came to a close Monday (April 8) with a 75-60 loss to No. 1-ranked UConn. The Boilermakers finish the season at 34-5, setting the school record for wins in a season.

Total solar eclipse viewing event draws more than 50,000
Over 50,000 people attended the total solar eclipse viewing event Monday (April 8) presented at Indianapolis Motor Speedway by Purdue, IMS and NASA. The watch event was one of Indiana’s largest, featuring programming and festivities that included Purdue experts, alumni, students and more. A photo gallery from the event will be included in Thursday’s (April 11) issue of Purdue Today.

Aniket Bera
Video: Building AI that understands human emotion
In this video, professor of computer science Aniket Bera explains how his lab is working to help AI comprehend human emotions. By teaching AI to understand nonverbal communication, Bera is developing the next generation of AI for use in robots, computer applications and virtual assistants. AI is a foundational component of the Institute for Physical AI, a Purdue Computes initiative.

Purdue announces new head of Department of Computer Science
After a competitive national search, Purdue has announced professor Petros Drineas will take on the role of head of the Department of Computer Science, effective July 1. Drineas joined Purdue University as an associate professor in August 2016 and has served as an associate head since June 2020.

Faculty and staff can book flights now from Purdue Airport to Chicago O’Hare; flights begin May 15
Commercial air service is returning to the West Lafayette/Purdue University Airport for the first time since 2004, and ticket sales recently opened for flights starting May 15. Faculty and staff who will be traveling for Purdue business should book through Concur or AAA Corporate Travel, the university’s travel agent.
