Anand Raghunathan receives Bement Award for groundbreaking AI research
Anand Raghunathan, the Silicon Valley Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been chosen to receive Purdue University’s 2023 Arden L. Bement Jr. Award. The award is given annually to a university researcher who has made highly significant and impactful contributions in pure and applied sciences and engineering. Raghunathan’s achievement will be recognized April 22, when Karen Plaut, executive vice president for research, will host the Excellence in Research Awards and Lectures event from 2-5 p.m. in the North Ballroom of Purdue Memorial Union.

In Print: ‘Milton Across Borders and Media’
Angelica Duran, professor of English, comparative literature and religious studies, has co-edited “Milton Across Borders and Media,” a collection of case studies on English poet John Milton. The unprecedented collaboration presents new essays covering Milton's presence in a diverse range of media that includes painting, stained glass, film, opera, hip-hop and Braille. Duran’s book is the latest in Purdue Today’s weekly “In Print” series, which highlights faculty expertise across a diversity of subjects and disciplines.

Purdue innovations use electric fields and electrode configurations to manipulate a flame’s shape, heat release
As a flame changes shape by the millisecond, its heat release and stability are affected. Purdue researchers have created patent-pending methods to dynamically manipulate a flame — from stable to oscillating to agitated — using electric fields and electrode configurations to control its heat release.

Reaching Rural Veterans: Jake Newton and Rena Sterrett
The Military Family Research Institute of Purdue conducted the Reaching Rural Veterans program to serve rural communities directly. Outreach specialist Jake Newton and senior outreach specialist Rena Sterrett are part of the team that surveys and assists veterans directly. Research and direct community engagement with food pantries have provided resources and services to around 1,000 veterans.
