You may be breathing in more tiny nanoparticles from your gas stove than from car exhaust
Cooking on your gas stove can emit more nanosized particles into the air than vehicles that run on gas or diesel, possibly increasing your risk of developing asthma or other respiratory illnesses, a new Purdue study has found. The study focused on tiny airborne nanoparticles that are only 1-3 nanometers in diameter, which is just the right size for reaching certain parts of the respiratory system and spreading to other organs.

To help address that question, PhD candidate Kendrick Hardaway in Purdue’s Ecological Sciences and Engineering program was awarded a 2023-24 Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Egg hunt
First Family to host second annual Easter egg hunt at Westwood; new task force to increase child care availability
Purdue President Mung Chiang and First Lady Kei Hui will host the second annual Easter egg hunt for faculty, staff and student families with children ages 12 and under at Westwood on March 30. Hui aspires to engage in initiatives that support and benefit all Boilermakers. She and President Chiang have placed an emphasis on children’s well-being, for example, in establishing a task force to increase child care availability for Purdue families.
