Two months from today, Boilermakers will be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime event, a total eclipse of the sun. And we will have a front-row seat. Just after 3 p.m. April 8, much of Indiana will experience near totality for approximately four minutes as the moon passes between the Earth and sun, darkening the sky as if it were dawn or dusk. In anticipation of the once-in-a-generation event, Purdue has released information and opportunities for students, staff, instructors, alumni and fans interested in celebrating the day.
Walks across campus with Purdue professor Larry Nies led to a career in sustainability innovation for Justin Richter. Not only did Richter find a mentor in Nies, the walks and talks led Richter to the new graduate program in environmental and ecological engineering. Richter became EEE’s first MS graduate in 2016, and he completed his PhD in 2019. Now senior sustainability impact manager at Microsoft, he measures the embodied carbon impact of Microsoft Cloud hardware across each stage of the hardware lifecycle.

She carries with her the lessons learned from her beloved mentor, Dr. Cornell A. Bell, and the importance of providing guidance to the next generation of Boilermakers through her involvement in the Business Opportunity Program.
