E-mail bests text messaging; verdict pending on dependability

E-mail narrowly beat text messaging Monday, Sept. 24, in a race at Purdue to see which is the fastest. The score is still pending on texting's dependability.

E-mail reached 59,882 people in six minutes and three seconds. Text took seven minutes. Technical feedback and information from those who self-reported, however, indicate that text messages failed to reach at least 5 percent of the 9,979 who signed up for that portion of the test. More

Donors give $1.5 million to Purdue Cancer Center in honor of son

Purdue's Cancer Center has announced a $1.5 million gift to establish the new Robert Wallace Miller Director Chair for the Cancer Center. Former Ind. Sen. V. Richard "Dick" Miller and his wife, Jane K. Miller, provided the gift to honor their late son Robert "Robbie" Wallace Miller. Robbie succumbed to a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, when he was 11 years old. More

Popular Science to bring high-tech dorm room, latest in electronics on campus tour visit

Popular Science magazine will visit Purdue today and Wednesday (Sept. 25 and 26) with the latest in electronics, a high-tech dorm room and a contest in which the grand prize winner from one of 10 campuses will receive $5,000 worth of JVC products. The Discovery Learning Center is host for the visit, the magazine's sixth of 10 trips to college campuses around the nation. More

High-ranking delegation from China to visit Purdue

A delegation of nearly 20 professors and lab directors from the highest ranked university in China will spend more than a week visiting Purdue. The delegation from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, will meet with Purdue administrators and faculty and visit a number of campus laboratories, centers, colleges and departments, said Michael Brzezinski, associate dean of international programs.
