ITaP upgrades VPN hardware

Increased use of Purdue's Virtual Private Network (VPN) has caused more demand on the hardware than it can handle. Recent changes to Purdue's VPN service will allow Information Technology Networks and Security (ITNS) to provide service to the greatest number of VPN sessions the new hardware can handle. VPN is used to allow remote access to the University computer network. More

As a way to encourage Indiana residents to get in shape and focus on the importance of healthy living, 39 counties will host Walks Across Indiana. The project, co-sponsored by Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, is part of the INShape Indiana initiative. More

Economists recommend steps to enhance U.S. global competitiveness

Indiana investors and small businesses could benefit from policy recommendations by a group of economists that gives companies regulatory control options as well as the choice of accounting standards, said a Purdue economist.

The recommendations, designed to help U.S. markets become more attractive to investors worldwide, are part of a report from the Financial Economists Roundtable, a group of senior financial economists who have made significant contributions to the finance literature. More

Purdue cultural center to lead exchange program for Muslim leaders

A College of Liberal Arts center based at Purdue is partnering with the U.S. Department of State to support an exchange program for Muslim religious, academic and civic leaders from Southeast Asia. More

Education counseling program to be honored

The North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NCACES) will recognize the College of Education's School Counseling program with the "Outstanding Innovative Counselor Education Program Award." The award will be presented Oct. 12 at the 2007 Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) National Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

Appointments and honors

— Greg Kapp has accepted a new appointment in the Office of the President as executive assistant to President France A. Córdova.
— Amy Noah will serve as director of advancement for the College of Engineering.
— Thomas Hodges, Purdue professor emeritus, has been named an inaugural fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists.
— Barrett Caldwell, an associate professor of industrial engineering, will participate in the National Academy of Engineering's 13th annual U.S. Frontiers of Engineering Symposium Sept. 24-26 in Redmond, Wash.
— The Association for Science Teacher Education board has chosen John Staver, professor of science education and co-director of Center for Research and Engagement in Science and Mathematics Education, and Lynn Bryan, associate professor in the departments of curriculum and instruction and physics, as co-editors of the Journal of Science Teacher Education.
