The Image in the Text Margo Katherine Wilke Undergraduate Research Internship Program Spring 2024 Accepted Visual Studies, English, Art History, Digital Humanities, Data Assest Management and Visualization The research project entails collecting, managing, and visualizing data for the book project, The Image in the Text. The Image in the Text synthesizes literary, book, and art history with theoretical work from visual and media studies to offer an alternative account of the development of a mass visual culture in nineteenth-century America. It does so by reconsidering the rise of the mass-mediated image in terms of the fundamental intermediality of the period’s literature. Christopher J Lukasik Conducting primary research related to research project through targeted searches of digital databases. The student will work with me in collecting, organizing, and interpreting the primary source material related to the book project. Duties include collecting, managing, verifying, and visualizing data sets constructed from the digital databases. Students will help to visualize map the data for presentations at national conferences and publications. Past students have also had the opportunity to
join HASTAC and explore working in digital humanities arenas. Current students may have the opportunity to participate in major grant proposals.
