Health and Wellbeing in Rural Latinx Youth and Families First Year Investigators Undergraduate Research Program 12-Month 2023 Accepted Human Development & Family Science, Developmental Psychology The Purdue Puentes Project is a longitudinal study of the health and wellbeing of Latinx youth (ages 10-15) in rural, farm worker, or agricultural worker families funded by the National Institute on Minority Health Disparities (NIMHD). The project is headed by Dr. Zoe Taylor in the department of Human Development and Family Studies and Dr. Yumary Ruiz in the department of Public Health. The study aims to learn about the well-being, stressors, challenges, and strengths of youth in rural, farmworker, or agricultural families. Specifically, this study aims to identify sources of resilience that can be used to promote health, school success and positive change for rural Latinx youth. Zoe E Taylor Students will learn research skills related to an ongoing research project. They will assist with project tasks including data collection with families in the community as well as other office duties such as helping with data entry, calling families, and conducting literature reviews. Students will be especially involved in data collection with youth and families (including
assisting with surveys, taking biometric measurements, and conducting one-on-one interviews with youth). Data collection will take place as part of a team in community locations locally and in Frankfort and Logansport. Students may also be involved with conducting interviews and transcribing them. Students may also have the opportunity to analyze data and
present their findings (depending on their interests).
