Osteoarthritis at Tombos: Understanding the effects of physical labor Liberal Arts Academic Year 2023 Accepted Anthropology; Bioarchaeology This project will focus on analysis of skeletons from the archaeological site of Tombos. Specifically, we will focus on a condition that provides information about physical activity. Research at this site has determined that the community was multicultural and composed of multiple status levels. Data on physical activities will provide a means to understand differences within the community and how various groups may have interacted. Michele R Buzon The student will collect data on osteoarthritis from a set of more recently excavated skeletons from Tombos. These data will be combined with data on entheseal remodeling and be analyzed by subgroups including sex, age, immigrant status, and cultural group. Data collection will take place in the Bioarchaeology laboratory. Data will be analyzed using statistical programs and a manuscript for publication will be written. This process will include a literature review, data analysis, interpretation and conclusions.
