ISF: Harmful Algal Bloom Predictions for Midwestern Waters DUIRI - Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship Summer 2023 Accepted CE, EEE, ABE, Hydrology This NASA-funded project aims to develop satellite-driven predictions of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Midwestern lakes and reservoirs. The basic framework of the project is to collect measurements related to water quality and hydrodynamics in reservoirs, and to use those measurements to train a machine learning model that relies on remotely-sensed water quality parameters. Faculty Collaborators: Keith Cherkauer Cary D Troy Andrea Slotke The project involves a combination of and exposure to remote sensing (working with satellite imagery), on-the-water sampling, water quality sample analysis, and computer modeling. https://research.purdue.edu/isf/research/research-areas/water.php Students should have as many of the following skills as possible: some background in programming (Matlab or Python); be comfortable working in the field, and on the water in boats; good written and oral communication skills. 0 40 (estimated)
