We will investigate Spanish development during study abroad experiences, focusing on pragmatic development. Pragmatics refers to the use of language considering contextual variables or culturally appropriate language.

-Literature search for relevant research
-Code each publication in terms of the content (e.g., type of study abroad program (6 weeks, 1 semester, etc.); country of program; pragmatic variable examined; method to elicit data/type of data; other data examined; theoretical frame; main results/findings; main implications)
-Collaborate on initial analyses
-This can be a 1-3 credit hour program, depending on interest and availability of the student

GPA of 3.4 or above, strong organizational skills, self-motivated, ability to skim text for accurate data coding of article content, ability or interest in data analysis, any major is acceptable. Ability to read in Spanish is a plus, but not necessary.
Hours may be 3-9/week; Departmental credit could be possible. Contact researcher to discuss.
