The new human capital management structure, or foundation, will allow flexibility, organized workflow and easier reporting. It also aligns the human resource structure with the new redesigned finance structure.

Although the structures may be invisible to the average Purdue employee, those who directly work with human resources and pay processes will see some significant changes.

Process Improvements:

What will every employee see?

  • Employees will have online access to update personal information, similar to Employee Self Service (ESS) today.
  • Organizational chart is viewable in SuccessFactors. Employees can view their department and view structures all the way up to the President. There will no longer be a need for manually created org charts!

What will benefit managers or leadership?

  • A job family structure organizes jobs in career streams, allowing for career mapping for the first time at Purdue. Our current structure was based on a 1970s classification system.
  • Managers will easily see vacant positions.
  • Moving people or positions from one department to another (reorganizations) is both automated and easy. Today, a reorganization could take weeks.
  • Workflows automatically move approvals through the system. (Today’s workflow was actually built outside the current SAP system.)
  • Positions can be ‘overstaffed’ for a period of time. This provides opportunity for the current person in a position to train the person that will replace them. Today, a position could not be filled until it was vacant.

 

What will benefit administrators?

  • Positions can be held in one department or area, with a supervisor in another.
  • Mass uploads or data changes are available in SuccessFactors.
  • Creating new foundational objects, such as a new department, position, etc. will be automated, eliminating current paper forms.
  • Limited Term Lecturers (LTL), who are used intermittently throughout the year, will not need to be re-verified each time.  

 

What will report writers appreciate?

  • Aligning cost centers with departments simplifies reporting.
  • The ability to align the HR structure with the finance structure will allow for easier report creation. Reports can be viewed by campus, specific college and even units.
  • Actual building address will be held in location field, making it easier to report by location or group of locations. This functionality also eliminates the need for a paper form to update addresses.
