BGR Team Leader Information
Mentors, Guides, Friends
The Team Leaders, known around Boiler Gold Rush as TLs, are volunteers serving in an entry-level leadership role. Team Leaders work in Residence Hall and Off-Campus groups to act as mentors and role models for new students attending the BGR program. Team Leaders are chosen early in the Spring semester and attend a retreat and trainings to prepare for Boiler Gold Rush in August. TL's return to campus early and attend a two day retreat before the new students arrive. Team Leaders have a huge impact on the students they mentor by being a friendly face on campus, connecting them to organizations and events, and sharing their passion for Purdue!
Team Leader International
Just like the role of a Team Leader, the Team Leader International position is a voluntary entry-level leadership role. Team Leader Internationals, or TLi's for short, assume the same duties as Team Leaders but work as mentors and role models for international students over the course of BGRi to get them settled in to life in the United States. BGRi is a supplemental program that occurs the week before BGR. During BGRi, new students set up bank accounts, activate cellphones, and get acclimated to American customs and culture. Team Leader Internationals keep their BGRi students in their groups for the week of BGR and gain domestic students as well.
The application to become a Team Leader opens each year in January. The BGR Student Orientation Committee hosts three days of callouts to share information about the position. Students may then apply online and attend an interview as they move through the application process.
Team Leader International volunteers must be back on campus by August 9, 2016.
Team Leader volunteers must be back by August 12, 2016.
