About the First-Gen Success Initiative

Purdue University works hard to serve every Boilermaker, regardless of their background. That is why staff from across the University have joined forces to put together the resources and information to better help first-generation college students succeed in the classroom and beyond. On this website you can discover the people, places, and information you will need to make your own 'giant leap' at Purdue.

What Makes a Student 'First-Generation'?

A first generation student is any person pursuing a higher education degree (Bachelors, Masters, etc.) in whose family neither parent/legal guardian has received a Bachelors degree.

At Purdue, we know and believe that being a first-generation college student is a tremendous accomplishment. Pursuing a college degree can be intimidating regardless of background, but at times even more so for those who are the first in their family to do so. That is why we strive to offer all the help possible for first-generation students in the form of programs like Horizons, Purdue Promise, and more.

You're Not Alone

Every day, thousands of first-generation students walk along side you at Purdue, thriving with excellent GPAs, retention/graduation rates, and more. Want to know more about first-generation data?
