Federal Work-Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a program offered to students who have demonstrated financial need as determined by the result of their FAFSA. All regular student hourly positions qualify as Federal Work-Study eligible and some employers may require or prefer students to have an award to be hired. The employing department pays a portion of student wages while federal funds cover the remaining amount up to the award maximum.

To take advantage of the benefits associated with Federal Work-Study, the student must first accept their award. Once hired, the student must submit the appropriate paperwork to their hiring unit for processing. Acceptance of an award does not guarantee placement in a job. Additionally, work-study award dollars are paid directly to the student for hours worked through bi-weekly payroll.

The Division of Financial Aid provides support and oversight for the Federal Work-Study program. For additional information and procedures, please visit the Division of Financial Aid's work study page here.
